Bio:
I'm one of the Reader/Advisor/Editors (RAEs), and I'd like to tell everyone how I decide when and to whom I will give commission codes (so that the writer can work with me, publish on the site, and be paid). There is NO SET METHOD—no check list and no evaluation. The GOAT PoL is a "polity"—a gathering of equals who are unique and radically different from each other: I can't evaluate any of you. So I look for the spark of curiosity, liveliness, and engagement with writing and reading.
As a RAE, my habits are to read as much work as I can, both the published stories and the uploads on your Contributer's Pages (CP); when I see work that interests me, I either offer a commission, or I make a note to remember to offer a commission later. I strongly encourage you to post the work that you are most excited by. Maybe it will excite me, too? Second, if I'm interested in the writer's work, I look at their self-description, what they've shared about themselves in their CP. If your background and experiences or your favorite writers interest me, I become more interested. Then I look at how often you've published on The GOAT PoL. A writer who has had very few or no chances to publish is more interesting to me; so I send such writers a commission sooner. Finally, I look at the writer's participation—do you take workshops, are you reading and picking (as favourites) work by other writers?—I favor those who participate. Those are my habits. They are not rules, and they are different from the habits and tastes of the other RAEs.
In a "polity of literature" every person can act subjectively, according to their own wishes and values. Therefore, on purpose, we did NOT make any set rules nor required guidelines for when a RAE will give a commission. Each of the nine RAEs has their own unique set of interests and values. Have faith, and keep on writing! The RAEs and other writers who support your work will find you, even if it takes time.
