Bio:

I’m honored and privileged to speak about my book titled Under the Piney Woods. Becoming a student and writer is a journey that I never thought I’d take. Thanks to my mentor and dear friend, Dr. Alison Turner, who pushed and pulled me over the many obstacles we faced due to my incarceration, I now feel like I’m given the opportunity to cross burned bridges back to where I’m heard by those living again. Writing is our loudest voice. Under the Piney Woods has been a challenge and, as I look back at its chapters, I see my growth as a writer while under the tutelage of Dr. Turner, and I can’t wait to see what is up ahead. Her confidence in my ability to create has given me a lifeline back to the world. I grew up between two parents, back and forth in the states of Mississippi and Louisiana. I always wondered how my dreams at night were always filled with so many characters I had never met. Now with my book, I feel I finally have a place for some of them to go. Writing this book reminds me of a bible story of a man who goes into a field and finds a treasure. Burying it there, he goes and sells all that he has to buy that field. Thank you for this opportunity to be heard again, and I hope you all find your own treasured fields.
