A Serenade of Frogs

The hidden, golden lights glowed and spread across the green willow trees outside the window. The delicate and green leaves of the trees swayed gently in the silent night breeze. The light and the movement of the branches created a breathtaking view and filled the night with peace and beauty.

It was hot inside the room and a cool breeze entered through the open window. The lands surrounding the house were full of rice paddies and green meadows. I stood silently beside the window, watching the peaceful landscape as night covered the green fields. The scent of freshly watered fields carried by the gentle night breeze softly caressed my cheeks.

Whenever darkness descended, the mysterious and vague chorus of frogs echoed through the silence of the nights. Unlike others, for me it was uniquely pleasant. Frogs were immersed in their own little world—freely and happily calling one another and every night it created a beautiful serenade. By hearing their songs, I began to forget all my worries and burdens. All my loneliness and pains that I got from people who always made me feel lonely. The frogs set me free from the bondage of thoughts that hurt from within. Listening to their tunes, I felt a deep sense of peace. A peace that I could never find amidst fellow humans. It seemed that only nature gave me that comfort before sleeping every single night.

Little by little, the frog’s songs became a part of my nightly routine when there was no one else to talk to. When everyone left me alone, I only had their melody to accompany me. If I didn’t hear their songs before bed time, I never slept. I felt lonely and restless. I became lost in my thoughts, staring blankly at the ceiling as if I had lost something precious.

For me, beyond that small window, there was a world where life breathed with hope. Those green rice paddies and meadows were a land of optimism— untouched by cruelty and ugliness. Outside there, everything seemed pure, perfect, peaceful and kind. To me, the rice paddies sung along with the frogs throughout the night and life breathed more peacefully to the sounds they made. Every night, I stood behind the window for hours, got drowned in my thoughts silently, and in the background, frogs sung beneath the countless stars. Their melody took me to the lushness of nature and I found solace in absolute nonchalance when I was completely alone.
