Govan Community Project is a community-based organisation working in south-west Glasgow.
Our purpose is: To achieve social justice in the Greater Govan area by building a strong community based on equality, mutual respect, support, and integration. Govan Community Project (GCP) used to be named Govan and Craigton Integration Network, and was originally a response of community and church members to the needs of newly arrived asylum seekers in Glasgow. Since then, GCP has grown into a registered Scottish Charity running a variety of different activities and VoiceOver, our own social enterprise that provides an interpreting and translation service.
Based in Govan, we support the diverse communities in our local area and asylum seekers and refugees throughout Glasgow. We contribute towards policy and best practice in Scotland to improve social justice. Our community flat is a valuable resource for ourselves – hosting our English classes, social groups and homework club – and for other local groups. We also offer an advice and advocacy service, information workshops for people in the early stages of the asylum process, distribute food and undertake participatory action research with community members.
