In the Silence

By

My heart does not beat as usual
And my voice has expired.
A young man like me
Might have seen enough to make my thoughts blurry.

So I pretend not to pretend,
Chasing my dreams to the end.
Sometimes I wonder how long
I will keep on chasing my dreams.

Being a man is tough sometimes.
I just feel bitterness
But I try my best not to show it on my face
Because temporary things shouldn’t distract me.

All the tears,
All the muted cries that I hid
In the total absence of everyone,
All the hurtful words that I absorbed.

My unborn words would not have prevented
My younger self from confessing my love to you.
I cannot make you understand
How deep I feel about you.

In this silence love still exists.
I dream big for you,
I imagine you winning with or without me,
I pray for your safety to the Creator daily.

In the same silence
Gazing at you feels illegal.
I sweat like a criminal waiting
For his death sentence in a courtroom.

My heart holds good lyrics for you,
Ones you’ve never heard,
But I prefer to love you in silence
Because my heart deserves peace.
