A True Hustler

By

It all started miserably,
A meal was a stroke of luck.
We got what helped us
To survive along a thorny path.
I grew up knowing that
There is no sweet without sweat,
Which left a bitter taste.
It was heartbreaking at first
But I endured. I was told
That a true hustler embraces
The difficult tests,
Even the ones that are
Beyond his capabilities.

Back then I had no idea
What struggle looked and felt like.
In my studies I did my best
To reach the best of me,
But I ended up falling
Like a mud house in a heavy rain.
I wasn’t the best,
And my income became
A barrier to my goals,
But this did not stop me.
I believed I was a true hustler.

I almost forgot
What sleep meant to me.
There was no day or night.
I did not choose
Who to work for, I did anything
That paid the fees and bills.
I worked more
Than I was capable of.
Whenever I wanted to lose hope,
I remembered that nothing
Comes for free.
Mountains don’t meet
But people meet.

In one of the toughest moments
I went through, I met a mate
Who came to be the key
To my transformation
From grass to grace.
Through him I got a new start.
He was a true hustler.

He became the only person
Who helped, supported,
And encouraged me,
And taught me new life lessons.
Because of him I had
Unforgettable experiences
That I could never get
From anyone else back then.
Patience and never giving up
Were the major lessons
I got from my mate.

Having a meal was once
A stroke of luck,
Now it is a right.
I’m now an educated
And respected person.
The journey was very long
And painful,
But I always kept in mind
That the end is better
Than the beginning.
Patience is the definition
Of a true hustler.
