Inside my heart,
there’s a bed of pink roses,
hosting the warm shades of summer.
Even when the heat becomes unbearable,
they continue to grow prettier and softer.
My heart is a hideout
in devastating moments:
thundering rains, hurricanes and earthquakes.
And it’s a paradise in each gentle rain drop.
The sound of the rain,
so pleasant to my ears,
brings peace to my mind
and carries me into sweet dreams.
Even the smell of wet soil
right after the rainfall,
so sweet
that I crave to gulp a handful.
But this heart of mine
does long for a soulmate,
someone with whom
it can find peace,
happiness and itself.
Sometimes it wants to leave
the noisy world behind,
get lost,
and hide somewhere quiet.
A safe and unknown place
where it can breathe freely.
And somewhere inside it,
new codes
written on special guitar strings are safely kept.
A soft melody
waiting to be played—
a melody that can make
another soul feel welcomed.
But I never play it for just anyone.
I only play it
for the few who truly deserve it.
This is a heart
that fights hard to stay alive,
even with its many invisible wounds.
A soul that has learned
to lean on its Creator
for strength and survival.
A heart that kneels
every dawn and every morning,
asking for another day
and another reason to keep going.
Sometimes even my mind
gets tired of thinking,
but my heart never gets tired
of playing the sweetest strings of love.
Even in times of hurt,
even when faced with hatred,
it tries to let go
and leave the past behind.
It chooses to love
as if nothing happened before.
It keeps giving real and lasting love
to those who deserve it.
It welcomes people,
it gets excited,
and somehow,
it is still ready
to love again.
That’s what I call
a heart of mine.
